Solutions to Clinical Controversies

April 25-27, 2013 · Miami Beach, Florida

Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel

Thank you to all who participated in the BioHorizons Global Symposium 2013 in Miami Beach, FL held April 25-27, 2013. The symposium brought together over 1,400 dental professionals from 55 countries to the prestigious Fontainebleau Hotel. Thirty-eight clinicians presented throughout a three day program that featured concurrent surgical and restorative tracks, hands-on training and faculty-moderated discussion panels.

The program was led by internationally-recognized opinion leaders who addressed a range of topics including immediate placement and loading, implant complications, treatment planning and tissue regeneration. Pre-symposium courses included topic-specific breakout sessions and a dedicated Spanish language Symposium by key thought leaders from throughout Latin America. "This is the most impressive, educational implant forum I have ever attended," said Dr. Daniel Spagnoli, Chair of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, LSU School of Dentistry.

R. Steven Boggan, President and CEO of BioHorizons, stated "This was the most comprehensive agenda in our history. The Global Symposium incorporated research and practical perspectives from top clinicians around the world. They described the latest technologies and techniques for resolving challenging issues within implant dentistry. With technology evolving so rapidly, it's important that clinicians base their decisions on evidence-based solutions, not industry rhetoric. The Global Symposium met that important need based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback from all of the attendees."

"Given the tremendous response, we will continue to offer these much needed programs to dental clinicians," said Greg Bryant, Director of Continuing Education. "The next three stops in our International Symposium Series have already been scheduled for Mumbai, India (2013), Dubai (2014) and Los Angeles (2015)."

Dr. Edward P. Allen
8:30am - 4:30pm · Splash 3 & 4
tuition: $1795 · auxiliary: $295 each · CE credits: 7
This course presents detailed techniques for successful soft tissue grafting with Acellular Dermal Matrix using the latest techniques and instrumentation. Review in detail indications for predictable root coverage and soft tissue grafting around implants. Apply course learning during hands-on exercises to treat multiple tooth gingival recession and soft tissue deficiency involving implants. Please bring loupes for the hands-on workshop.
KLS Martin Innovative technique for ridge augmentation using SonicWeld Rx Rigid Resorbable Barrier System — co-sponsored by KLS Martin
Dr. Gerhard Iglhaut
8:00am - 12:00pm · Splash 17
tuition: $395 · CE credits: 4
The SonicWeld Rx system is an innovative solution for space maintenance and bone fixation that utilizes rigid, resorbable polymer pins and barriers. The system allows surgeons to create and control space by welding and fixing polymer to the bone using piezo-ultrasonic technology. Dr. Iglhaut will share new histological and clinical evidence, critical soft tissue management steps, techniques for various augmentation sites, and provide personal hands-on instruction with the SonicWeld Rx system.
Extraction site management for implant reconstruction: hands-on workshop
Dr. Michael Pikos
8:00am - 12:00pm · Splash 18
tuition: $495 · CE credits: 4
This clinical presentation/hands-on workshop will focus on alveolar defects seen immediately following tooth removal with emphasis on evaluation, classification, and treatment guidelines. Parameters to be assessed include gingival biotype, buccal plate status, number of bony walls affected, and soft tissue status. Diagnostic and treatment protocols will be featured that include evaluation, timing, and sequence of extraction site reconstruction for both soft and hard tissue grafting. Emphasis will be on clinical and CT evaluation as well as treatment of both esthetic and non-esthetic zone sites. The hands-on segment will include models for step by step protocols for socket grafting including the application of particulate mineralized allograft with PTFE membranes, connective tissue grafts and free gingival grafts.
Sirona 3D imaging and CT-guided implant surgery — co-sponsored by Sirona
Dr. Jay Reznick
8:00am - 12:00pm · Splash 1 & 2
tuition: $49 · CE credits: 4
The integration of cone beam technology and 3D imaging has advanced the digital dentistry path. CT-guided implant planning combined with implant manufacturer guided surgery kits lead to increased precision of implant placement. To realize the full advantages of CT guided surgery, it is important to have a thorough understanding of software and workflow. This session will demonstrate how implant planning software and CAD/CAM technology are enabling surgeons and restorative dentists to leverage the benefits of digital dentistry.
TeethXpress: an optimal immediate load/function treatment solution for fully edentulous patients
Dr. Hamid Shafie
8:30am - 4:30pm · Splash 6 & 7
